How Defining My Personal Pitch Helped Me Level Up My LinkedIn and Internship Search
As a college student studying entrepreneurship, I have always known that personal branding is important. But until recently, I have not really taken the time to sit down and define exactly what makes me different, what I bring to the table, and how to communicate it effectively.
That changed when we did this simple but powerful exercise: building my personal pitch board. It was a mix of self-reflection, skill evaluation, and storytelling- and it turned out to be a game-changer in how I present myself professionally.
This process not only helped me better understand my strengths, skills, and goals, but it also gave me the confidence to update my LinkedIn profile in a way that truly reflects who I am and what I have to offer. Now I feel more prepared than ever to start applying for summer internships in fields that I am genuinely passionate about- fashion, health & wellness, and sales.
Step 1: Defining My Resources – Who Am I as a Professional?
The first part of the exercise was about self-reflection. I had to identify my skills, achievements, personal strengths, and even my fears. I broke it down into five categories:
My Skills (Hard & Soft):
Hard Skills: Entrepreneurship, digital marketing, branding, business modeling, sales strategy, social media analysis.
Soft Skills: Creativity, adaptability, networking, leadership, problem-solving, trend forecasting.
I realized that I’m not just someone who loves fashion and branding—I actually have real, marketable business skills that companies value. This was a huge mindset shift.
My Achievements (What I’m Proud Of):
Taking the time to list my achievements helped me see just how much I’ve already accomplished, even as a student:
I created a pitch deck and business model canvas for a startup.
I developed a paid ad strategy for a real company in my Digital Marketing class.
I’ve successfully balanced business strategy with creativity, which is a unique combination.
My Print (What Makes Me Different?):
This part forced me to really think about what sets me apart from other students looking for similar opportunities.
I don’t just think like a business owner; I think like a consumer—which makes me great at branding, storytelling, and trend analysis.
I have a strong eye for aesthetics, but I also understand sales and strategy.
I can take an idea and turn it into something that sells, whether that’s a product, a campaign, or a personal brand.
My Gift (What Comes Naturally to Me?):
Spotting trends before they go mainstream.
Crafting brand identities that stand out.
Connecting with people and turning ideas into compelling stories.
My Beliefs (Fears & Limiting Mindsets):
This was the hardest part. I had to be honest with myself about what holds me back:
The fear of not standing out in a competitive industry.
Worrying about how to balance creativity and profitability.
Self-doubt when it comes to taking big financial risks.
But by writing these down, I felt a sense of clarity—because now I know exactly what I need to work on.
Step 2: Structuring My Personal Pitch – How Do I Present Myself?
The next step was turning all this self-reflection into a pitch that makes an impact. This was the part that really helped me level up my LinkedIn profile and get ready to start reaching out to potential internship opportunities.
01 – Catch Their Attention
"Imagine a world where fashion, wellness, and business merge into something meaningful. That’s where I come in—bridging creativity with strategy to build brands that don’t just sell but connect."
I wanted to start strong, with a clear value proposition. Instead of just listing my interests, I framed them in a way that shows my unique perspective.
02 – Storytelling
"Ever since I was young, I’ve loved fashion—not just the aesthetics, but the psychology behind why people buy what they do. That passion led me to entrepreneurship, where I realized that great branding isn’t just about a product—it’s about telling a story."
This part helps potential employers and connections understand my passion on a deeper level.
03 – Knowledge & Experience
"Through my studies in entrepreneurship and digital marketing, I’ve built real-world projects—like crafting business models, designing ad campaigns, and analyzing social media engagement. I know how to blend design, branding, and business strategy to make products irresistible."
This is where I highlight my skills and experience—without just listing them like a resume.
04 – My Value & What I Bring to the Table
"What makes me different? I don’t just think like a business owner; I think like a consumer. I understand how to make brands feel personal while being strategically positioned for success. Whether it’s launching a fashion line, a wellness brand, or a lifestyle business, I bring creativity, market insight, and business acumen to the table."
This final section sums up why I’d be valuable to a company.
How This Helped Me Update My LinkedIn
Once I had my pitch structured, I revamped my LinkedIn profile to reflect everything I had just discovered about myself:✅ Updated my headline to focus on my key strengths (Entrepreneurship | Digital Marketing | Branding | Sales)✅ Rewrote my bio using elements of my pitch, so it tells a story rather than just listing skills.✅ Added key projects and achievements to showcase my experience.✅ Started engaging with content in my target industries to build visibility.
This simple exercise completely changed how I see myself as a young professional. Before, I felt like I was just a student trying to figure things out. Now, I feel like a brand in myself, with a clear direction.
Feeling Ready for Summer Internships
Before doing this, I felt a little lost about where to start looking for an internship. But now, I know exactly how to position myself. I have a clear value proposition, and I feel confident reaching out to potential employers and networking.
I highly recommend this exercise to anyone looking to refine their personal brand—whether for LinkedIn, job applications, or just self-reflection. It forces you to think critically about what you bring to the table, and that confidence is priceless when stepping into the professional world.
Now, with my LinkedIn updated, my pitch solid, and my mindset clear, I’m ready to start my search for the perfect summer internship.
