After learning about interview preparations, I began my journey to preparing my own interview preparation. This exercise immensely reduced my stress about my upcoming interviews and helped me to feel better equipped for when I need to talk about myself. A lot of my answers are vague because my upcoming interviews are different from one another, but it is a good start so that I know what to research and prepare for before each interview occurs.
Starting with what I want the interviewer to remember about me, I crafted three important things about me that I believe are worth remembering:
I’m a creative and motivated entrepreneur with a passion for fashion and wellness.
I’m building my career around freedom, design, and helping people feel their best.
I bring a strong mix of marketing knowledge, social savvy, and real-world hustle.
I think that these show my strengths and are unique so that the interviewer can remember them easily.
Next, I thought about my skills, both hard and soft, my knowledge, and my competencies:
Digital marketing strategy (ads, social media, content creation)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Trend spotting and consumer behavior knowledge
Creative problem solving
Entrepreneurial mindset and adaptability
Experience building pitch decks and business models
Passion for brand storytelling and customer connection
I struggled a bit with being asked "Tell me about yourself", because it seems very vague and I have always had a hard time answering it. But after all the exercises we have done thus far in class, I felt more prepared to answer this question:
I'm an entrepreneurship major with a deep interest in fashion, wellness, and design. I love building things from the ground up, especially when it means creating something beautiful, purposeful, and fun. Whether it's working on a business model, analyzing social media engagement, or coming up with campaign ideas, I bring creativity, strategic thinking, and energy. I’ve studied digital marketing, developed my own pitch decks, and I’m always looking for ways to combine aesthetics and function to connect with people. Ultimately, I want to build a career that blends freedom, impact, and good design.
However, I am always improving and will continue to work on this question.
In an earlier class, we learned about the STAR method, which fascinated me so I was very excited to get to write my own:
Skill/trait: Creative problem-solving and entrepreneurial initiative
Story (STAR format):
Situation: For a class project, I needed to come up with a business idea from scratch and build a full pitch.Task: I wanted to create something unique that aligned with my interests and that would also solve a real problem for consumers.Action: I developed a concept called Bash Box — a party supply box delivery service focused on personalization and sustainability. I did competitor analysis, identified my target audience, and crafted a business model that emphasized convenience and aesthetic value. I designed the pitch deck, refined the brand tone, and delivered a full presentation.Result: The idea was well-received by my peers and professor, and I realized how passionate I am about building brands that reflect who I am and what I care about. It gave me the confidence to think more seriously about entrepreneurship as a career path.
Recalling key stories about myself was not too hard as I think about these stories quite often and genuinely feel like they have defined my life:
Overcame a challenge: While I was the VP of Finance for my sorority, girls were financially dismissed for lacking to pay their dues during abroad. Our chapter was in the process of striking down on late payments but these girls were now seniors and were used to the relax payment style. I worked countless hours to reinstate these girls back into our chapter and led a financial class that they must attend for a month to teach them better financial responsibility.
Worked on something interesting: In my entrepreneurship class I came up with two ideas for a business startup that I got to work on for my semester abroad in Barcelona
Bash Box
Ai Fit Platform
Made a mistake: I mistook how long it would take to screen-print all of my own sweatsuits. I did not realize how much time it would take to do it all myself. I had put out word of when the drop would launch on my social media but the launch was late by two days.
Lastly, I dived into what I would say about why a job excites me, why I would want to work there, and some possible questions I could ask the interviewer. This was the section I was most anxious about because I always felt scared about asking the interviewer questions. I now realize the importance of having questions prepared and I feel better equipped to walk into an interview:
Why does this job excite you?
It aligns with my passion for creating and promoting things that improve people's lives.
It offers the opportunity to grow in a fast-paced, design-forward environment.
I’m excited to learn from experienced people while also bringing my fresh ideas to the table.
Why do you want to work here?
The company culture aligns with my values: innovation, creativity, and impact.
I see myself thriving here and contributing with energy, style, and strategy.
Your mission resonates with what I care about — empowering people and delivering experiences.
Questions I want to ask
How do you support young professionals in their personal and professional growth?
What’s the most exciting project someone on this team has worked on recently?
How do you encourage creativity and innovation across teams?
What does success look like in this role after 6 months?
Overall, this exercise was very beneficial for me as I am in the current search for a summer internship and have a few interviews lined up in the next coming weeks that I now feel way better prepared for. I enjoyed the conversations we had regarding this exercise in class and look forward to working more on my interview preparation next class.
