Today I learned what my Holland Code is and how it applies to me. At first, I was very skeptical because we were asked to walk to any circle on the floor and that was our determined three-code Holland Code. I first walked to the circle that said conventional. I chose this circle because it had a description of being an organizer, which I relate to. Next, I chose to move to the social circle aka the helper. I naturally tend to help others and enjoy social settings. Lastly, I chose artistic, or creator. I am very creative, have started my own fashion line, and continue to yearn for more opportunities to create things. After we got our code, we went back upstairs and scanned a QR code that took us to a website where it showed what careers our Holland Code thrives the most in. After looking into my code, the website asked me to take off the artistic one because there were not many options for my code. Instead, I only searched careers that had the conventional and social domain. I did not relate to any of these careers and was a bit frustrated because I felt like this code was not my best fit.

It wasn't until after I took the personalized quiz offered on the website that I realized there was more context to finding my particular code. Once I answered the 60 question quiz I was given the code Enterprising, Social, and Artistic. I felt better after receiving this code as I felt I knew more about the context and that it captured my abilities and aspirations well. Some of the interesting careers that were listed to me included advertising, PR, project manager, sales manager, and real estate broker. All of these positions sound like something I feel capable of going into and fascinate me just as much.

This activity helped me branch out from my own pre-determined beliefs about my interests and taught me my true characteristics that can help guide me to my career in the future. It enlightened me to learn more about my Holland code.

The first article I read talked about individuals who characterize as enterprising. It said that individuals with a strong enterprising orientation are often persuasive, energetic, and sociable. They enjoy leading and managing teams, initiating projects, and taking risks to achieve organizational or financial goals. Careers in management, sales, law, and entrepreneurship align well with this trait. This helped me understand more about why I scored so high in this trait and what it can mean for my future. I have always been interested in Management and Entrepreneurship, so I was very pleased to hear this.

Secondly, I researched my high score in the social domain. This article highlighted the importance of social domain characteristics including helpful, friendly, and trustworthy. It said that those who score high in social domain excel in roles like teaching, counseling, nursing, or providing information, valuing opportunities to assist others and solve social problems. If I were to become an entrepreneur I for see having to teach others about the company and also counseling others to help with the construction of my company. I am a natural team leader in group projects so I feel these characteristics suit my personality and career outlook well.

Lastly, I looked into my artistic domain. The article I found talked about how individuals who score high in this prefer ambiguous, free, and unsystematized activities that allow for creative expression. I completely agree with this as it is my dream to have a job where I get to choose my schedule and how I operate things. It then went on to say that these individuals are often original, independent, and creative, thriving in environments that encourage innovation and artistic creation. Careers in the arts, writing, design, and other creative fields are well-suited to this type. I once again, completely agree with this as I want to be into design as my career path.

Overall, I think the extra research I did was worth it because I learned a lot more about my Holland Code and am pleased with how well I feel it fits my persona. I think this was an important activity for me to do to truly understand my characteristics better which will ultimately help me in the future when deciding what career path to take.
